Save Farthingworth Green

Keep The Heights School in Caversham

latest news

We don’t need to cross into Oxfordshire to find a home
for a Reading school.

Save Farthingworth Green was set up in February 2015 when a field at Dysons Wood Farm in South Oxfordshire was added to a list of five proposed sites for the new Caversham Heights Free School.   We believed that a school for Caversham children should be in Caversham, not hived off into a neighbouring county, and our group campaigned to oppose the siting of the school in Oxfordshire.

Weeks of fierce argument within the Caversham Heights community followed.

A public consultation run by Reading Borough Council in April 2015 found that out of the five proposed sites, a clear majority of local residents would prefer the school to be built on Mapledurham Playing Fields.

In August 2015 the Education Funding Agency announced that Mapledurham Playing Fields would be the permanent site for The Heights School.

We are very grateful to all who gave their time and their expertise to support the campaign to save Farthingworth Green, and to everyone who voted with us in the public consultation.

Thank you for preventing development on Dysons Wood Farm.

Farthingworth Green can still be found on maps (well some of them, anyway) and there are traces of it at the junction of Shepherds Lane with Kidmore Road.  Read about its history here
